As you may all know Hesky, our special little man, has been with us for many months. Initially when he was first brought in to us this little man was very ill having seizures daily, and some lasting for quite a while. He was treated at our vets who investigated his seizures and medicated him accordingly. However for some unknown reason he was still having seizures. To witness Hesky having a seizure was terrible as we were not able to do anything for him. He would attempt to come over and snuggle up to you when he knew a seizure was happening. So often the staff at the sanctuary would sit and cradle Hesky in their arms and hope that it calmed him a bit. These seizures at times could last up to an over an hour or two. After keeping a diary of his daily movements and through a process of elimination the vets and the staff at the sanctuary were trying to see was there a pattern to his seizures. Was it after exercise, eating, playing etc? The diary recorded every little moment of Hesky's days and yet still no idea what was wrong. Hesky then was referred to UCD Veterinary College where he underwent CT scans and lumber punctures to try and determine his condition. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the public the cost of Hesky's medical procedures were covered. It was a game of waiting and wondering what the results would show. While all this was happening Emma at our sanctuary was fostering the wee man. This ladies and gentlemen will be a book in the making as the stories and activities of this wee man when in her care are magnificent!! When the results finally came in we were all delighted and surprised that, thank God, there was no tumour, no lesions. No real reason as to why Hesky is having these seizures. However they have lessened, thank God, and are not as severe.

Our plea today is to try and source him a loving home that will be willing to care for Hesky and understand that he will need lifelong care for his condition. He will be on medication and will need to be monitored. However when he is not having these seizures he is probably the cheekiest, bounciest, liveliest little teenager you could meet. So we are also looking for a home that will be as active and eager for life as this lad! Hesky loves children and the busier and more playful the better. He loves being active and playing games, but also loves to snuggle and must be allowed to get in under the duvet for the ultimate comfort!! Hesky certainly has this side of things sussed. He knows that one flash of those beautiful eyes at you and he will get in under the duvet and wrap himself right around your heart!!

The public have been magnificent in their support and interest of Hesky and he also has been a regular feature on our GalwaySPCA Facebook page with the stories that he has to tell. He has kept us up to date on his weekly activities and his visits to the vets. He definitely has stolen the hearts of everyone, sanctuary staff, vets, UCD team, people who meet him when he's out for walks, shop owners, visitors etc. The drive for life and to be happy running and playing with his fellow rescue dogs is wonderful to see.

Hesky is still in foster care with Emma and he will be there until a suitable home is sourced for him. As Emma also fosters and cares for numerous elderly and invalid dogs, as well as her her own crew, it is our desire to find Hesky his very own forever home so that not only does he get his own lifelong family but it allows Emma to continue having a place for the next wee soul.

For anyone interested in adopting Hesky please call our sanctuary at Heathlawn on 09096 76397 or contact Emma on 087-6916467. Please leave a clear message regarding Hesky and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

Once again a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has helped Hesky on his journey. We will keep everyone up to date on his progress. Please check in now and then on our Facebook page for updates written by Hesky himself!!
