This week we are doing a "Special Needs" appeal for four of our very special dogs at the sanctuary. Each have been through their own traumas in life, but thank God, are now living happily with us at Heathlawn. However they really deserve their very own forever home.
Daisey

This beautiful, elderly collie joined us at Heathlawn in January. She very sadly had to leave her owner who was unwell and had to be hospitalised. She and her brother Jonjo both came to live with us. Daisey has made wonderful friends at the sanctuary and has her very own "welcome inn" kennel right at the front door where she gets to meet and greet all the people coming for a visit. She has made a best friend with Ocean and these two beauties are the Heathlawn stunners! However Daisey, who is over 9 years of age, took a turn for the worst a few weeks ago and the vets thought it might have been a stroke, but after numerous tests they feel it might be something more serious. So Daisey will have to go in for CT scans and numerous other tests. She is still in good form but noticeably slower and will need these tests to be completed as soon as possible. So we would be eternally grateful for any small donation towards her CT scan. We would dearly love for Daisey to find her forever home where she could heal and recuperate.

Update: Just a quick update on our beloved Daisey. After spending a week in Ark Vets quite ill, Daisey has pulled through and even though she is still not out of the woods, she has proven that she is one tough old lady and determined to enjoy her retirement years. Daisey has gone to her new home in Ashford Castle Estate with two new canine brother and sister and a feline brother as well whom she loves. She is able to potter about at her own pace and watch the beauty of Ashford Castle from her front garden! Her new 2 legged mother is a holistic animal therapist and Daisey is certainly enjoying her daily massages and reflexology and general pampering.
A huge thank you to everyone who so kindly donated towards Daisey's care, and for everyone's wishes and prayers.
Hedgy
Yes, Hedgy is still with us! Numerous appeals and numerous begging sessions and yet this wise old character is still here. Talk about another old soul that has been through the mill. Found in the hedges along the road side after almost 2 weeks trying to catch him, old man Hedgy was in an awful state. Railway Vets in Loughrea managed to get this man back from the living dead. He had pneumonia, a heart complaint with fluid around his heart and various other complaints. He had a cough that would waken the dead and we all used to panic the minute he coughed so much so that the little smart man now coughs that cough when he isn't getting enough attention! He will need to be on medication for his heart for the rest of his life. He cannot be neutered as his heart won't be able to take the effects of an anaesthetic, so he needs to be seriously watched if there are any female dogs in heat! Nothing wrong with Hedgy when there's a lady around, his heart is well able to work then!

Millie

Beautiful Millie, approximately 10 years old, came in to us in need of some care and plenty of TLC. She was very thin and has mammary tumours that need to be operated on but as she is in heat at the moment we have to wait. Once she has the surgery and is spayed she will need a loving home to recover in. She is a gentle wee lady, has certainly gained the weight and is now happy out going out for a walk with the other dogs in the back field. She is happy to potter about in her own time and at her own pace. She deserves a nice loving home, quiet with someone who would like to potter around as well at their mutual pace.

Redmond
Talk about a handsome gent, that's Redmond. This well built, well padded man has come through a lot in his few years. Rescued with an old injury on his hind leg, Redmond sadly looks like he will probably have to have his hind leg amputated as the injury is too severe and has healed incorrectly. He loves his friends at the sanctuary and is a happy chappy who never gives us any trouble. He is a right little delight to have around and an absolute gent. Once Redmond has his surgery we really really need to find him a loving home that will be able to help him get over the surgery and the adjustment of life with only three legs.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that supports us and so kindly donates towards these precious wee souls, enabling them to find loving homes and happy lives.
