This is the story of 9 year old Jack the lad and Ray Allright.
Jack the lad was ill treated for most of his life before Galway SPCA rescued him. I picked him up from Allsorts Dog Rescue. He was a bit apprehensive and subdued, obviously bewildered. He had a very worried expression on his face, now long gone. We had a bit of a rocky start for a week or so but we soon bonded. I took him to the sea on his second day and he loved it. It was not long before he learned how to go out through the door flap to wee etc. He barks, wags his tail as he jumps up into harness when it's walking time. He is very well behaved and extremely affectionate.
He has the funniest mannerisms and personality, shaking his right back leg as he waddles off. He is all over the top excited when I come home from shopping, jumping up at me and yapping with happiness. In the mornings he jumps up onto my bed rolling all over the place on his back, nudging me, making grunt sounds and licking my face. I could go on and on but in brief he is a wonderful creature and I love him to bits. As for the expense, he costs no more than a puppy, that is if I did not buy him lots of unnecessary stuff just to pamper him. So give an older dog a break, the lad 'Jack' has many years to go and lots of love to give, you will be surprised at how much a not so young dog has to offer, I know because I have been the carer of 10 dogs in my time (all sadly missed).
The lad and I are forever good companions.
Keep up the good work, love from Ray and the lad. |
